The last we’d heard from Slowdive was their record, Pygmalion, from 1995. 19 years later, in 2014, the band announced that they were getting back together. Now in 2017, they re-introduce themselves to new and old generations of fans with their new track, “Star Roving.”
The new single is equally as expansive, cyclical and lush as we remember the sounds of Slowdive to be. They have a way of filling space with sound that is unlike any other.
In addition to releasing their new single, Slowdive also announced their signing with Dead Oceans.
Mitski looks at life through her own, honest, no sh#t lens. Happiness is something that is temporary and always accompanied by sadness. There is a constant push and pull, release followed by tension. Mitski’s music manifests her perspective, allowing us to see through her eyes and hear what she hears.
Her upcoming record, Puberty 2, is a direct follow up to her previous album, Burry Me at Makeout Creek, but is bigger, more refreshing and bursting with life.
She recently released the first single off of Puberty 2 titled, “Your Best American Girl.” It starts subtle and quiet, with her subdued vocals but you can feel the tension bursting at the seams. The energy slowly ramps up then suddenly explodes, shoving the listener backwards with her rattling, loud and impressive voice. It’s here the song remains, high above it’s subtle starting point. It’s an exultant, overpowering introduction to her new record.

Kevin Morby joined the incredible roster of the Dead Oceans (which includes Strand of Oaks, Marlon Williams, Phosphorescent and others) label for his third full length, Singing Saw. Fascinatingly, the record was grown from the most organic of origins, a deserted piano left behind by the previous owners of Morby’s current home in LA. Along with the piano was left some old sheet music with instructions on how to master some basic chords on the piano.
Previous to the writing and recording of Singing Saw, Morby was part of The Complete Last Waltz, a reincarnation and reenactment of the Band’s final performance. Before he knew it, Morby was recording Singing Saw at Isokon Studios in Woodstock, NY. The record was inspired by and manifests the concept of “duality.” The duality of LA, the duality of his life, the duality of existence. Enjoy the mysterious trailer to Singing Saw below:
With a voice of velvet and true eccentricity in both his storytelling and lyricism, 24-year old Marlon Williams is on his way to taking blues, folk and country to a new level. Below is a music video for the song “Strange Things”, a tragic song with a maniacal story of a man who’s lost his mind over losing his lover:
Williams started making music as a teenager thanks to his father back in Christchurch, NZ and quickly gained momentum. Fast forward to 2014 when he released his incredibly well received debut EP. Now, Williams has been nabbed up be record label, Dead Oceans and will be releasing his sophomore record in 2016.

You can find Marlon Williams making his debut appearance in North America at CMJ this October or at any of the other locations he’ll be playing this fall:
