Fluttering and powerful vocals that call to mind Antony and the Johnsons and lyrics that remind me of the stark reality that the low lately here in beautiful Bozeman, MT is around 4 degrees Fahrenheit: “4 Degrees” by ANOHNI featuring, yes, the very same Antony Hegarty of Antony of the Johnsons. That voice is truly unmistakable and no matter where it’s placed, leaves undeniable sonic beauty in its path. This track was done in collaboration with Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never and is off of ANOHNI’s upcoming album, Hopelessness. “4 Degrees” was created in the wake of and in support of the current climate conference in Paris. About this single, ANOHNI says:
“I have grown tired of grieving for humanity, and I also thought I was not being entirely honest by pretending that I am not a part of the problem,” she said. “‘4 DEGREES’ is kind of a brutal attempt to hold myself accountable, not just valorize my intentions, but also reflect on the true impact of my behaviors.”
“4 Degrees” is a sincerely and exceptionally constructed piece.
