Ruban Nielson (Uknown Mortal Orchestra) reworks Kody Nielson’s song, “Cellphone”

OK, let me break this down. Ruban Nielson is one of the masterminds in Unknown Mortal Orchestra. His brother, Kody Nielson is in a musical project called Silicon. Ruban reworked his brother Kody’s (aka, Silicon) song, “Cellphone.” Got it? Good. Now listen:

Like it? I did. The original is it’s own beautiful beast, though. I dug around on the interwebs and couldn’t find a YouTube video or anything for it so, I’m going the old fashion way (my favorite way) and buying it. The preview I heard totally sold me. In fact, it’s sold me on the entire record. “Cellphone” is off of Silicon’s debut record called Personal Computer. It’s a playful record that embodies the title of the record. You feel like you’re running around inside the intertwining electronics of a computer while listening without the intensity of Tron. It’s fantastic.

AND, who can resist sibling teams? I adore seeing families/siblings/spouses come together for musical projects. It rocks! This is what Ruban said about collaborating with his bro:

“My brother was an important part of the recording process of Multi-Love, especially with the drums and keyboards. Kody’s SILICON album, God Emoji, extends a lot of the tones and ideas we put into Multi-Love, so I think you’ll enjoy it a lot.”
